11/20/2023 0 Comments Packrat game running slowly![]() I don't seriously expect the devs to change anything about the game, least of all the visuals. 10gb if you get the free texture pack, which I would assume most have. Sleeping Dogs is currently the second top selling game on steam. "Greater flexibility on the size of the game itself, HD textures take up space." Also find me any classic game that looks anything like terarria/starbound. "It's a nostalgic art style to people who played classic 8bit games."Īesthetic =/= visual fidelity. People who are really like that, of which there are few, are not going to be interested in a sprite based game regardless of how good it looks. Right, because having more people buy and play the game would be a problem. "It filters out the moronic "gamers," that only care about graphics." I'll go with 'nothing worth doing is ever easy' and hope that conveys the point reasonably. Trying to come up with a way of saying this without sounding like an asshole or using the word "laziness", because that's really not what I'm trying to say here. "Cost less money and time to pixel something in paint, than to buy and learn expensive visual software." ![]() "More variety in items/background due to less time working on spriting" "Generally less time spent designing and trying to perfect light effects on a 3D surface." For the entry level specs to get any wider it would need to make like that guy in the "Super Size Me" documentary. It's hard to make a 2d platformer that won't run flawlessly on any computer that costs over $80. Highly recommend to everyone, especially those who are sick of the speed meta."Lower entry level specs = wider audience" You have to play carefully you have to know what items to use and how to craft efficiently and you can't expect a 6L except for Tabula, which has defensive downsides that are important when you're pseudo-HC. Playing SSF and not dying pretty much solves all speed meta "issues" people have with PoE. I don't play HC because I've died to stupid things like lag or failed Flame Dashes (where they show the line of fire indicating you SHOULD'VE dashed away, but you just appear back in the same spot you started). This actually really helps as I pick up all rares and a lot more magics than most people.Ī rule I'd like to implement is "fair softcore deaths mean you must delete that character". For example, last patch they made all magic item affixes provide at least 1 Alteration Shard, and boosted the amount of Alchemy Shards from some affixes. GGG have actually been really slowly making the game feel very nice for SSF players. I can still use items I find from my other characters though. Pretty simple for me I don't trade or party with others (unless they're SF too). It just helps me alleviate boredom when RNG is against me - your mileage may vary. To avoid hitting that gear wall too often I tend to play many characters, slowly improving over time. This really is a huge part of the game that "normal" players never get to see. I find that part of the process very enjoyable, and sometimes truly challenging. Adapt on the fly, build dynamically around what you find. The most important part of self-found I think is planning your build, and never plan on needing certain items. Still try to avoid buying gear, even though I've bought some stuff to speed things up. Mapping gets expensive and I got tired of always running out of currency. Like, trading off chromatics for chaos, stuff like that. Lately I've relaxed the self-found aspect a bit, and do some trading for currencies mostly. I tend to start all new characters in temp leagues, and use Standard later on for fine tuning and tweaking. There's something really rewarding about starting from scratch, for sure. Create one character and go full retard with it. Most enjoyable self-found I think is when a new league starts. ) Also, as you already mention: lack of MTX isn't fun. I'm a spoiled packrat, playing with 4 tabs makes me want to hurt myself. I did also try the new account approach, but gave up on that because of stash tabs. For me that is, not saying it's how you should feel. I like making lots of characters and if I couldn't share stuff inbetween them it would be too punishing. I do allow sharing of items between my characters. ![]() :)Įarly on, I gave up the idea of being isolationist, e.g. I've played a lot of self-found and find it very enjoyable.
